It may come as no surprise that June is the most popular month for people to get married, but did you know that it’s also the most “pup”ular month for dogs to embark on a life of wedded bliss? If your pal with paws has found his or her four-legged soul mate, why not celebrate their puppy love by hosting a dog wedding during National Pet Wedding Week?
When is National Pet Wedding Week?
Each second week in June since 2021, dog devotees have celebrated this annual ode to dogs going walkies up the aisle.
How Can I Throw A Wedding for My Dog?
Since a dog wedding is not legally binding, pet parents are only limited by their imagination (and their wallet) when it comes to planning their fur baby’s special day. Why not make the event personal with some DIY “I do” projects!

Clothing
While tiny tuxes, wedding dresses and apparel for the tail-wagging wedding party can be purchased through many pet supply stores and on Etsy, you might want to cut corners by creating your dog’s wedding wardrobe yourself. Those with sewing skills or a knack for knitting and/or crocheting can whip up small garments for the bride and groom.
No dog should ever be forced to wear clothing, and if outfits make your canine companion uncomfortable you can opt for a bow tie attached to the groom’s collar and a veil to the bride’s harness.
Accessories
Flowers purchased to decorate the spot for the ceremony can be used after the I do’s to beautify your yard for months to come.
Instead of tossing flower petals for the bride’s walk down the aisle, why not opt to drop dog treats instead?
Food
Rather than a traditional wedding cake, make cupcake treats for the newlyweds and their tail-wagging guests!
Ingredients
1 cup oat flour
1 egg
¼ cup peanut butter (NO xylitol)
¼ cup Pumpkin Purée, not pie filling
4 tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup water
Frosting:
4 ounces cream cheese, warmed nearly to room temperature
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray or grease a large cupcake tin.
In a large bowl, combine all cupcake ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
Divide mixture into cupcake tins. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting. For dogs who love peanut butter, add two tablespoons of creamy peanut butter to frosting.
In a large bowl, add yogurt and flour to cream cheese, mixing until smooth. Frost cupcakes as desired.
Gifts
You can create a gift registry for the happy canine couple, or you could request a donation to your local animal shelter.
