When is International Hug Your Cat Day?

This annual show of feline affection takes place each year on May 30.

How Do I Celebrate?

Before taking the pet holiday to heart, pet parents should wrap their minds around the fact that some of our feline friends do not like to be hugged.

If you and your cat have a close relationship that has always included cuddles, then put your mittens around your kittens for plenty of extra hugs! However, cats who have only been a part of your family for a short time may have trouble trusting, or the feeling of being held may trigger an upsetting memory of a visit to the vet.

If your cat does not seem receptive to a hug, show your feline friend just how much you care with an expression of affection that he or she does like, such as nose boops, chin scritches, or just lots of pets.

Give A Virtual Hug

As you give extra attention to your fur babies on International Hug Your Cat Day, remember that you can also give a virtual hug to a cat in need with a donation of funds, supplies or your time to your local animal shelter!
